🏊 Keeping Afloat
Over the past few weeks, one of the most common issues facing students and teachers seems to be centered around staying organized within our virtual learning environments. This post offers two simple suggestions to help everyone stay focused on learning while maintaining a consistent digital workflow.
My students are struggling to stay organized and keep up with the pace of daily assignments.
Tip #1: Group assignments by week
Organizing daily posts, materials, and assignments into weekly groups (or Topics in Google Classroom) helps make classwork appear more approachable and less overwhelming for students.
Create a topic
From the Classwork page, click Create > Topic. Enter the topic name and click Add. Topics can be named "Week of..." or "Distance Learning Week #." Since students will only see topics with published posts, topics can be created and posts can be scheduled in advance.
Add a topic to existing assignments or questions
Next to the assignment or question, click More > Edit. Choose a topic from the dropdown list under Topic. Alternatively, click-and-drag assignments or questions into Topic.
Tip #2: Guide students to the "View your work" page
The “View your work” page helps students gain oversight and sort through late or missing assignments. Teachers must ensure due dates are used appropriately for this option to work.
See all your work for a class
From the Classwork page, click View your work. Filter by Assigned, Returned with grade, or Missing.
Add a due date or time
For the "View your work" page to work, assignments must have due dates. To add due dates, create or edit an assignment. Under Due, click the dropdown and select a date and/or time.
